King Philips War
In 1620 the Europeans settlers established their first permanent settlement in Southern New England. They named this settlement Plymouth after the town in England they had come from. At this time the settlers and the Natives relationship was peaceful. The settlers needed the Natives to get through the first winter in the new land. The Natives helped out the struggling settlers in this first agonizing winter. The natives helped them hunter for animals, find supplies, plant vegetation, and taught the settlers which foods were edible and which foods were harmful.
After the first winter the settlers started to expand throughout the New England area and make new settlements. The relationships between the Natives and the settlers began to get tense. As the settlers moved further in land the Natives began to get more and more tense and angered. The Natives tension arose because the area between the new settlements and the hostile Iroquois and Mohican tribes was growing smaller by every new settlement established.
