Cold War: Nation-State Conflict Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The phrase “Cold War” is something that a generation can identify with as an age of uncertainty, with no clear outcome. From a political stand point it is one of the most complicated and interesting times in human history. Two nations managed to ‘fight’ one another without ever killing a solider or dropping a bomb. Yet none the less, there was a ‘victor’ and a defeated side. A lot of light has been placed on what happened in the cold war, but I think what led to the cold war, the climate and systems of the world nations, is all the more important. Even before World War II had ended, the victors were competing to achieve the best possible postwar position. As long as a powerful common enemy remained in the field, the great coalition held together. The common interest in defeating the Axis states transcended and muted the rivalry and conflict between the Soviet Union and the two leading Western powers, Great Britain and the United States.
