A Poison Tree is a short poem that deals with anger, hatred and wrath. It is about someone who holds in their emotions of anger (I told it not, my wrath did grow) until it grows into spite: And it grew both day and night, till it bore an apple bright. This spite and malice eventually overtakes the person, bringing him to kill the enemy or foe: In the morning I glad to see, my foe outstretched beneath the tree.
The Rice Pudding on the other hand deals with completely different emotions such as frustration and irritation. It is about a young child who is having a tantrum: What is the matter with Mary Jane.
