Connection Between Aboriginal Dreaming and the Land Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Most Dreaming stories involve ideas about how things came to be. Aboriginals use the Dreaming for the purpose of educating the young about how thing came to be. This ranges from the Dreaming story about why the Waratah is red, to another that tells of how a certain hill was formed, and others even tell of how the landscape was created. The aboriginals see the Dreaming as giving them their identity. There are examples of Aboriginals who have been away from their land for a while and feel as if they are losing their identity. An example of how the land is connected to the dreaming can be seen in the Dreaming story The Two Wise Men and the Seven Sisters. This is a story about how the Earth’s creator, “Jindoo-the Sun”, sent two Spirit Men down to Earth to shape the land, and Jindoo-the Sun also sent down seven sisters. One of the sisters falls in love with the two spirit men, and as a punishment Jindoo-the Sun took away their powers and their immortality. They became the parents of the Earth.
