There is controversial debate between historians about whether or not the Mayan civilization was advanced and highly literate, and if their intelligence is overrated. Mayans have lived in Central America for approximately three thousand years, and were unquestionably the most advanced civilization ever to develop in Mesoamerica. [Wikipedia par. 1] Despite popular belief - Mayans did not disappear during the Spanish conquest in the XVI century, and some Mayans still exist today. The Mayan civilization experienced a golden age that lasted for 600 years, during which they rapidly and greatly advanced in the areas of astronomy, mathematics and literature.
