Today, millions of people are going crazy over crops laden with animal manure. These crops are claiming to be better for the environment and better for the health of the consumer. But are they all they are cracked up to be? Many tons of animal waste is needed to grow only an acre of corn. The manure is also leached into the ground water and will run off into streams and rivers when it rains. Conventional farming uses the same nutrients that the manure contains, but only spread in very small concentrated quantities over the fields. In organic farming the crops are also not genetically modified to produce better yields. They use no pesticides or chemicals to control insects and weeds. Organic farms yield substantially less, due to weed problems, insects, and lack of nutrients. Conventional farming produces better yields to feed the worlds growing population and is better for the land.
