April 2nd, 2006 Abraham Maslow and his Hierarchy of Needs It is said that in order to accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe. It was Abraham Maslow’s beliefs and theories that helped contribute to the great accomplishments in the world of humanistic psychology. After taking an introductory class to psychology as an elective course my senior year of high school, I became intrigued with Maslow and his ideology. For this reason I decided to use this asssignment as an opportunity to further explore and evaluate Abraham Maslow, his life, beliefs, and accomplishments. Abraham Harold Maslow was born April 1, 1908 in Brooklyn, New York. He was the first of seven children born to his parents. Maslow’s parents emphasized the importance of an education to Abraham at an early age because they, themselves were uneducated Jewish immigrants from Russia. Maslow first studied law at the City College of New York. After only three semesters, he transferred to Cornell University, and then back to the City College of New York. He late......
