In the society that we live in, men are generally superiorly portrayed then women. It is throughout history that women “generally have had fewer legal rights and career opportunities than men. Wifehood and mother hood were regarded as women’s most significant professions” (wic.org). It was only until the 1920’s that women in America were allowed the privilege to vote. Sex role stereotyping is a “belief concerning the general appropriateness of various roles and activities for women and men” (augsburg.edu). Men have always been known as “tougher and physically capable” compared to women. Where women have been known as the “social able” kind. Although during the years women have improved in their reputation. They are slowly trying to become as equally treated like men. But still, stereotypes of gender roles still exist in our society. They are clearly visible in the advertisement that is coming out of the mass media, children’s literatures, and in job payments.
