One of the most unique phenomena of the 20th century is the mass media revolution. Of the many pioneers who shaped broadcast journalism, it is Edward R. Murrow who has been called its founding father. It is even possible to say that Edward R. Murrow made TV journalism what it is today. Edward R. Murrow, born in Guilford Country, North Carolina, April 25, 1908 and died in Pawling, New York, April 27, 1965, was not always held in such high esteem or even always famous. In his adolescent and early adult years Murrow went to Washington State College with no interest in becoming a broadcast journalist until the end of his senior year. Murrow was also, at the time, more of a follower then a leader. He had a brother who he followed in what ever activities he did. When Murrow finally got to college, Murrow first joined the debate and basketball team, which activities his brother participated in. Besides these activities Murrow had been interested in getting a major in business. When Murrow took debate it was recommended for him to take broadcasting, which he finally did.
