THE MOST UNLIKABLE CHARACTER IN TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD IS ACTUALLY AUNT ALEXANDRA. UNLIKE BOB EWELL, SHE SHOULD KNOW BETTER. DISCUSS. In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, a close examination of the text reveals that the most unlikable character is not Aunt Alexandra but, in actuality, Bob Ewell. He is not only a loathsome individual due to a drunken, abusive exterior and xenophobic temperament, but also a person who does in fact know better. Aunt Alexandra, who is socially and politically aware due an educated upbringing, is also a highly unlikable person with racist tendencies. Despite this, she – quite unlike Bob Ewell – is never consciously rude or physically violent, and actually evolves to become a better person throughout the novel, in part due to the influence of living with Atticus. Bob Ewell, however, is an angry, depressed man who is by no means ignorant; this is why he is the most unpleasant person from the book.
