The Cold War is the term used to describe the tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union, where it seemed like there could be a nuclear war at any time. An actual full-scale shooting war never broke out, so they called it a cold war. It was fought on economic, philosophic, cultural, social, and political levels (Cold War). Usually the Cold War is considered to be from the end of World War II to either the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 or the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991 (Cold War).
