Othello Themes & Shakespeare Sonnet Connections Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Chris Macken 1/1/06 AP Prep Eng 11 Othello Essay As spiders spin their delicate webs and birds make their nests with care, authors weave their messages into their novels and works in similar fashion. Within William Shakespere’s Othello there are many intricate themes and messages that are woven in and out of each scene and act in the forms of actions, words and often in the forms of common places or aphorisms. These things that we find betwixt the pages of the novel are left to the reader for interpretation and can also relate with Shakespeare’s sonnets. As the plot of Othello thickens and lies are piled upon lies, many of the characters in the play begin to display their true colors. Characters such as Iago are portrayed throughout the play as evil and conniving, and in the end his cleverness leads directly to his downfall and that of others. What seems to be one of the main messages throughout Othello is that deception leads to destruction. Identity is a major issue that almost every character struggles with in the story.
