Injustice in Alabama: The Scottsboro trials, 1931 Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
On March 25th 1931, a group of young white boys were thrown off a train after fighting with a group of black boys. They called ahead to the next train station to report the fight, and as a result the train was stopped in Paint Rock, Alabama. Two young women were taken off the train along with the nine black boys. The girls then accused all nine of boys of rape, and they were immediately taken to a jail in Scottsboro, Alabama. This report is going to explain the specifics of their trials, and how these nine boys created history.
In Alabama in the 1930s, the boys didnt get much sympathy from the white community. Their first night in jail in Scottsboro, a bloodthirsty mob of hundreds ready to lynch the boys had gathered in front of the jail. When the first trials began on April 6th 1931, one hundred and two National Guardsmen had to be called in to hold off the crowd.
