It is a necessity that Federal and State Governments work with the cities across Australia to achieve a planned, sustainable, integrated transport system.
An integrated traffic and transport blueprint that co-ordinates all modes of transport services is critical for the secure future of greater cities across Australia and for future generations. There should be one State authority co-ordinating all transport, including roads, as part of a planned and well-integrated transport network.
So far, the Federal Government has failed to provide leadership and invest in public transport despite its own House of Representatives bipartisan Sustainable Cities report, which stressed the critical role of accessible and sustainable transport for maintaining cities economic, social, and environmental security.
