Divorce vs. Reconciliation in The Dolls House Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Nobody marries with the expectation of failure. Married couples never contemplate that the person they once loved could later seem to be a stranger and perhaps even an enemy. Often spouses feel that a separation to give the parties time to think about future action whether to move forward with a divorce or to seek counseling or reconciliation is an effective way to deal with marital difficulties. As the attorney for Torvald and Nora Helmer, I feel a great deal of assessment must take place and changes must be made. The first change that has to take place immediately is, even after eight years of marriage and three children, Torvald has to quit treating Nora as a though she were a small child or helpless animal. He repeatedly refers to her as his “little songbird,” “little lark,” or “squirrel” (Ibsen 1166). Torvald treats her as if she has no common sense or the wherewithal to make any kind of decision for herself. He reprimands Nora for her money sense – or lack there of – saying, “so little wastrel has been throwing money around again” (Ibsen 1166). He also monit......
