Catcher in the Rye Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

I read the book Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. It is about a sixteen year old named Holden Caulfield. It starts in Pennsylvania and then Holden goes to New York. It takes place during the 1950s over one weekend at the beginning of Christmas vacation. As he is narrating the beginning of the story Holden hints that he has been hospitalized because he had a nervous breakdown. The story starts in Pennsylvania at Holden’s school Pencey prep. He tells how he was kicked out of school, for the fourth time, for failing 4 out of his 5 classes. He has to leave when vacation starts and go home to his parents in New York. He talks about how his history teacher Mr. Spencer sent him a note saying he wanted to visit him before he left, so Holden decides to go visit him. When he gets there he realizes he really doesn’t want to be there and gets angry with Mr. Spencer for scolding him. Holden becomes very annoys and makes up an excuse to leave the uncomfortable admonishment. Holden goes back to his dormitory where he gets even more annoyed by his neighbor Ackley and his roommate Strad......
