Giver / Fahrenheit 451 - comparison Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Lois Lowry’s novel The Giver and the movie Fahrenheit 451 have lots of similar things but also many things that differ from each other. Happiness of the people in the novel and in the movie is similar thing and both societies have very tight rules, which are made to have happy people. However, everything is depending on the control of the society; when knowledge of people increases the unhappiness increases as well. The main thing that is different in these two societies is methods used to control people. In The Giver everything is done moderately, whereas the control in Fahrenheit 451 is more violent and rough. The movie has some violent acts that are not used in the novel, even though the rules are quite similar in both. When Jonas, Receiver of Memory and the main character in The Giver, experiences colors, feelings and emotions, he becomes unhappy and those experiences change him. Same kinds of changes are seen in movie’s fireman Montag, who becomes inquisitive about books and he starts to read them furtively. Books change Montag’s life and he becomes unhappy as well.
