European Imperialism in Africa Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
In 1884 European leaders at the Berlin Conference split up Africa into territories of their own. The British, French, German, Italian and Portuguese all got a piece of Africa and spread imperialism into Africa. The Europeans needed new market expansions and they found that Africa was the perfect place. Africa was affected negatively by European imperialism, which exploited African resources, destroyed indigenous cultures, and controlled the African people.
Europeans exploited African resources by taking advantage of Africans. Document 5 says that Africa was just a source of cheap raw materials that Europe needed for increasing their economy. Document 5 also said that the Europeans used Africa as a new market that they sold their manufactured goods to. Document 10 is a picture and it shows how the Europeans split up Africa in the Berlin Conference. It shows how the Europeans were using Africa to their advantage and splitting it up to use as a new market.
