Carmen Cogshell Joshua Gillespie English1312: Comp.II June 21, 2006 Where Has America’s Dream Gone? “Let America Be America Again” by Langston Hughes is a poem about hope and change for the better. The message of this poem is that everyone should be be treated equal because they help contribute to make America what it is now, and what it will be. “Let America Be America Again” expresses Hughes views of how it has become, and how it could aspire to be again. Hughes gives a clear view of a depressed America in the 1930’s. He believes that America has forgotten what the dream was originally about, and it will never be remembered. Hughes has strong feeling towards the America dream. The American dream is to be free in the land of love. He believes that this dream will only come true for the rich, white, and famous. He feels that the American dream has been talked about, but no one is following through with the dream the American dream speaks of the freedom and equality many people boast about, but do not have Hughes writes “ America was never America to me,” and how ......
