The onset of the effect of MDMA is fast and usually lasts from 3-4 hours, depending on the dose taken. Some of the positive effects of taking this drug include: emotional openness, euphoria, stimulation, a decrease of inhibitions, a feeling of relaxation and the emotional perception of having no worries. However, negative effects can also be experienced. These include: nausea, dizziness, depression, hyperthermia, dehydration, and the worst case scenario, death. A vast quantity of research has been done in laboratories to acquire data on the effects of MDMA on animals. This has been done by administering the drug under controlled conditions and consequently monitoring the animals behavior and physiology.
