Narrating: A Multipurpose Writing Strategy Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
The first half of Chapter 14 in St. Martins Guide to Writing thoroughly explained narrating as a multipurpose strategy useful when writing entertaining stories, explaining or reporting events, supporting a point of view, covering conceptual ideas, and presenting information. The assigned reading covered five different narrating techniques: Calendar and Clock Time, Temporal Transitions, Verb Tense, Specific Narrative Action, and Dialogue. Although each method shares information in a unique way, each technique also assists the reader by tracking the order in which events occurred and how they relate to one another. Of the five narrating methods, I believe that I use Calendar and Clock Time as well as Temporal Transition to accurately share information with the reader.
In my opinion, Calendar and Clock Time is the simplest way of precisely and truthfully sharing a sequence of events, regardless of what they may be.
