Sex. It is a simple three letter word that can result in an overabundance of reactions, from nervous giggles of laughter to outright shock. Most adults, especially in an educational environment, choose to ignore that it is happening right beneath their noses. The fact of the matter is, kids have sex. Its not pleasant, its not good, but its true and something needs to be done to prevent such tragedies as teenage pregnancy. The school has to take a stance and go beyond simply encouraging abstinence; they need to provide birth control for those who need it.
Despite warnings not to, a large percent of teenagers in high school engage in sexual activity. A study done by the Alan Guttmacher Institute revealed that only one in five young adults refrain from sexual activities in the teenage years. Meanwhile, teenage girls are far more likely than older women to not use contraceptives.
