Gwen Harwood’s poems are a reflection of their context, which includes religion, music and literature. They are mature and deeply personal evoking a sense of identity and incorporating common themes such as the loss of innocence and the inevitable passage of time. The poems, Father And Child (I & II) and The Violets both share similar themes and use techniques typical of Harwood’s poetry.
