Hale’s Changes Throughout “The Crucible” While some characters did not change throughout “The Crucible”, by Arthur Miller, Reverend John Hale did change. When Hale first arrived in Salem, he was set in his ways on how to find witches. Hale had many books on finding witches and was very proud of the fact that he had caught many witches in his past. As “The Crucible” went through the first two acts, Hale started to realize that finding witches in Salem was not as easy as it had been in other towns. There were many ways that Hale changed throughout “The Crucible” but there were three main steps that showed the person he was in act one compared to the person he became in act four. In act one, Hale was very confident in himself and others to identify the witches. In act two, Hale familiarized himself with the accused and started to doubt his ways of finding witches. In act four, Hale had a very different opinion on who the witches were but the town did not seem to agree with him. “And many of the confessors confirmed the confessions with very strong circumstances.” (Hale).......
