The United States has a current debt of more than eight point one trillion dollars, and that amount grows by the second. Even with that debt, the United States intends to double their aid to the poor over the next five years. Many people believe that it is the obligation as a more developed nation to help those other countries in need. However, those people do not realize that the amount of money given to other countries needs to be used for its own citizens. In the past, the United States has always been one of the first countries to respond to a natural disaster, but the obligation to help them is nonexistent, and the United States has the obligation to its own citizens, and not to other countries.
The people who believe we have an obligation to help lesser developed nations argue that the United States has the financial capability to help those underdeveloped countries, especially since President Bush pledged to double the United States Aid to eight billion dollars a year (Oxley n.pag).
