Jim, the African American exponent of the controversial novel, Huckleberry Finn represents the negro society and adversity faced by these slaves which were treated sub-humanly during the 19th century era. Written by Mark Twain, (Samuel L. Clemens) Jims personal traits and characteristics created by Twain allows the viewer to sympathize with Twains character, therefore raising awareness to society and also disseminating Twains views, sympathy and interest in the masses of the negro people Ralph Ellison.
It is clear on Twains views of slavery and the treatment from the outset of this novel. His portrayal of black and white characters in the book exemplify his intentions of an adverse comment on the beliefs of racial norm.
