Ogawa train station is one of the first stops on the Shinjuku line in the Saitama Railway district. It first opened on the 21st of December in 1894, and every day thousands of commuters pass through Ogawa in the bright yellow carriages of the Seibu trains; either on their way down to more central parts of Greater Tokyo, or further North, perhaps to transfer to the Ikebukuro line at Tokoro-zawa.
Reasonably less crowded than the underground subway, you could almost call Ogawa station peaceful; at least as far as Japanese public transport goes, I guess.
Since it was a good hour or so before eight oclock, the morning throng had yet to arrive. A small handful of sleepy businessmen; espresso coffees clutched in one hand and briefcases gripped in the other, shuffled through the turnstiles and made their way past the bike lockers to the first row of benches along the platform. Skirting around the first two, they fitted themselves neatly on to the third, muttering to each other in low voices.
