Writers and Poets of Reconstruction Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
After the civil war and the North had won, and slaves had been set free, the time between 1865 to 1877 became known as the reconstruction period. The south suffered much after the war, in order to try and put things the way the whites wanted it they created black codes. When the southern states united during reconstruction, they split the nation, and made even more problems between the races. A step to reconstrution was in 1870 when Blacks were able to vote. Also during the time of reconstruction there were Blacks, some very well know and others not so well recognized that talked or wrote about what was happening during that time. Today we will talk about some of the many writer and poets that lived and wrote during reconstruction.
A woman named Anna Julia Cooper was called by the people a Black Victorian Writer. She also called herself The Voice of The South. During the reconstruction there was also a feminist movement taking place. The first book she published was the first of a African American feminist, the book was called A Voice from the South by a Black woman of the South.
