Great Expectations by Charles Dickens tells the strangeness a little boy passes when he enters a house. Many aspects of the text gives us evidence to support this statement.
It all starts when: The first thing I noticed is that the passages were all dark.
Darkness is something which always makes people more insecure about their feelings, and imagine what will they face when the lights are on. The only light he could see was a lighted candle burning beside the door, which the girl took with them the whole path through. We can see that the boy feels, since the beginning, insecure of what he is about to see. This is showed on the line:

What we can see from the girls attitude is that she is imperious/rude, by saying:
