Thanks to new technological advances in communication mediums such as the internet, other countries can adopt American popular culture at an almost instantaneous rate. Popular icons such as McDonald’s, The Simpsons, and other popular American artifacts influence cultures all over the world. The culture of rap and hip-hop music is not an exception. According to Aldridge and Stewart (2005), rap music and the hip-hop culture originated in the United States in the early 1970s and made its way to France in 1982 (Burke, 2006) and seems to have been a part of subcultures since.
