Australia was also prominent in granting women suffrage. South Australia was the first place in the world to grant all women (21 years and older) the right to enroll, stand as a candidate and vote. In the first paragraph, I will be talking to you about the history of women and voting in Australia, there will a table showing the years each state in Australia, when women had the right to vote, sit and the first women elected. In the second paragraph, I will be talking to you about how dedicated women went across Victoria, to collect signatures for the Women’s Suffrage Petition. Finally, in the last section, I will be talking to you about Edith Cowan, the first woman elected to an Australian Parliament. Australia was the first nation in the world to give most women the right to vote and to stand for the Commonwealth Parliament.
