Measuring lung capacity Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
Purpose:
The purpose of this lab is to measure the lung capacity of a biology class.
Procedure:
Materials needed: balloon, ruler, paper, and something to write with.
Steps:
1. Draw a table. Label the 1st column Trial (Where you would what number that your on at) and you 2nd column Tribulations (Where you will put your measurement at).
2. After breathing normally, inhale as much air into your lungs as possible. Exhale as much air as you can from your lungs into the balloon.
3. Immediately pinch the end of the balloon shut so that no air escapes. Place the balloon on a flat surface. Have a partner use the metric ruler to measure the diameter of the balloon at the widest point. Record this measurement in the table that you drew.
4. Add up all of the measurement and divide by three. The number that you get will be your lung capacity.
