The Sumarian civilization lasted the longest, was the first, and created great deal of important inventions. Yet, it is not the most remembered civilization in the everyday modern world. We recall Egypt as the first great civilization, although this is far from true.
The Sumarian world was established well before its Egyptian counterpart, and lasted longer than it. Sumaria lasted from 3500 BCE to 900 BCE. The Egyptian civilization lasted from 3000 BCE to 1000 BCE. Although both lasted a huge expanse of time, Sumaria was around for six hundred years longer. Having your civilization last for a hundred years is quite a feat, while having it last for thousands must be a miracle. Our own country, the U.S. of A. itself has not even breached the two hundred and fifty year mark.
Sumarian city-states spread throughout the area had the same culture and traded with each other. They all flew the same flag. Their priests were highly important, as they spoke/prayed to their gods.
