Dear editor, I, Bob Marney of St Andrews write to you in relation to the Stolen Generations of the 19th and the 20th century; which I am currently partaking in study on. As a proud Australian, actions carried out by the government and their effects and impacts on the Aboriginal society of the past and present have truly concerned me and I feel to voice my objection and share views with fellow Australians. The Stolen Generation was the term that referred to the separation of the Aboriginal children and descendents from their families, communities and country by the government policy aimed specifically at breaking down Koorie communities. They were placed in missions and reserves when they were removed. Missions and reserves also used the moving of family members to other areas as a form of punishment. This meant that parents could be on one mission and the children on another and the board and managers could and did refuse visiting rights. They were also removed forcefully by a manager of a reserve and accompanied by a policeman. Children were removed due to many reasons suc......
