Comparing Mrs. Linde and Nora in Ibsen's A Doll's House Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
Women and their lives play a major part in Henrik Ibsens A Dolls House where men dominate in society. Nora and Mrs. Linde are just two women who struggle in their lives as they sacrifice themselves for the pleasure of others. Ibsens use of both major women in the play is first to provide a parallel and come up with a conclusion about women as well as directly contrasting and contradicting the two to depict differences in class, status, and relationships. Ibsens main techniques to both parallelize and contrast Nora and Mrs. Linde are their role in marriage, their loyalty, their progression through the play, societys view of them, the objects they are associated with, and finally, their values.
Contrasting differences in both characters are not only shown in the characters themselves, but the role that they play in their marriages. Noras marriage is based on false love and inequality as it is Torvald who controls the relationship.
