Suffering is the ancient law of love; there is not quest without pain; there is no lover who is not also a martyr. This famous quote is said by Heinrich Suso, a German mystic. Suffering is a very common human emotion felt countless times throughout a persons life. It is also a common aspect of famous tragic plays. An example of a well-known tragedy is the play Blood Wedding, written by Federico Garcia Lorca. This play is set in rural Spain and incorporates many themes such as death, suffering and love. These themes are also present in the famous play Romeo and Juliet, which is a Shakespearean tragedy. In both these plays, the main characters suffer and eventually die. The suffering and deaths of the pivotal characters is caused by the themes of pride and family honour, dishonest and ineffective communication, and hasty behaviour.
