Parliamentary taxation- British had different ideas and policies about economics, the first was mercantilism. British saw the Navigation Acts as were intended to regulate commerce; they preferred mercantilism to help trade between Britain and the American colonies. British raised taxation for the colonists, and wanted all the goods imported only by Britain. In 1764, Britain passed the sugar act, which raised taxation in the colonies for Britains profit. Then, in 1765 Britain passed the stamp act, which affected the merchants, lawyers, and newspaper publishers directly. The stamp act required tax on playing cards, news papers, diplomas, and marriage licenses, health insurance, and etc. The Parliament had to cancel because of the colonists protested, boycotts and riots against this act; American simply showed the British their rights about no taxation without representation. The colonies were proud with victory over the stamp act, so when Britain passed the Townshend acts in 1767 which forced new taxes on glass, lead, paper, paint, and tea; the colonists protested violently.
