The Summary of “An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge” By Ambrose Bierce “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge” by Ambrose Bierce is a powerful and suspense filled story, bringing to life the feelings and emotions of a man, father, and husband, Peyton Farquhar. Set during the Civil War, Peyton, a southern planter, attempts to burn the bridge at Owl Creek before the Union soldiers have the chance to rebuild and get across it. The Union soldiers punish him by hanging him at Owl Creek Bridge. The story begins with Peyton, standing on the bridge with a noose around his neck about to be hanged. In the final seconds before his death Peyton starts to think about his wife and children. He has a flashback to the night when a southern soldier stops by his home for a drink of water. The soldier explains to Peyton that the Northern troops are rebuilding the railroad for another attack. Peyton begins to ask the soldier what would happen if he was able to sabotage the railroad. The soldier explains to Peyton he would be hanged by the Northern army. After leaving Peyton’s home, the s......
