The Life and Times Of Will Tweedy
In 1906, a young fourteen year old boy Will Tweedy is just starting to realize what it means to a man, and all the responsibilities that come with growing up. In Cold Sassy, Georgia, the town is filled with gossip surrounding the townÂ’s newest newlyweds, Rucker Blakeslee and Ms. Love Simpson. Cold Sassy, a town filled with many who gossip, such as Ms. Effie Bell Tate, and is divided by social classes, Will does not seem to be bothered by the gossip and the prejudice that surrounds him. Throughout Cold Sassy Rucker Blakeslee, the grandfather of Will Tweedy seems to be the mentor and role model for Will, who seems to be the son that Rucker never had. In Cold Sassy Tree by Olive Ann Burns, Will is the type that accepts the joys and pain of life, he accepts life as it comes without rebelling in ways his Grandfather would, Will enjoys being in love with Lightfoot, even though she is from Mill Town, and he accepts the pains, as in near death experiences, and letting go of who he loves.
