Supply Chain Comparison A supply chain can be defined as a coordinated system of organizations, people, activities, information and resources involved in moving a product or service from supplier to consumer (Wikipedia.com, 2006). Simply stated, a supply chain follows a product from assembly line to the hands of consumers, identifying each process along the way. An example of this that occurs in everyday life would be when a consumer walks into a Best Buy and purchases a new High-Definition projection TV. The supply chain begins with the customer and his/her need (or want) for a new TV. Then it continues to the store that the TV is purchased from. This Best Buy store receives its product from a centralized distribution center. The Best Buy distribution center receives the assembled TV from the manufacturer.
