There are few men on the planet that match the literary talent of a man named Charles Dickens. Throughout his life he traveled the western hemisphere enriching the lives of many with his wonderful works of literature.(Cody 12) His success with books such as A Christmas Carol, Great Expectations, and A Tale of Two Cities sent waves of enlightenment through the literary culture. Dickens being a hard worker, literary genius, and renowned author singlehandedly changed the world of literature.(Ackroyd 103) Charles Dickens was born in Landport, Hampshire, on February 7th, 1812. CharlesÂ’ father, John Dickens, was a clerk in the navy pay office. He was well paid but often ended in financial troubles. In 1814 John Dickens and his family moved to London and then to Chatham, where Charles received some education.(W.B. Encyclopedia 340) The schoolmaster, William Giles, gave special attention to Charles who made rapid progress. In 1824, at the age of 12, Dickens was sent to work for many months at a blacking factory in Hungerford Market, London, while his father John was in Marshalea debtor's ......
