The Jack Manning Trilogy Face to Face Topic: Glen’s violent behavior arises from a number of diverse factors, including workplace bullying and a troubled childhood. In David Williamson’s short play, the Jack Manning trilogy: Face to Face the central character, Glen’s, violent behavior is due not only to bullying at his workplace, Baldoni’s Exhibition, but also to psychological trauma from events that occurred previously in his life. Glen, a worker at Baldoni’s, with a tendency to be overly trusting and gullible, is subjected to a number of practical “jokes” and taken advantage of by his co-workers. When he becomes aware of how he is used as amusement for his work “mates” he becomes violent and is sacked from his position. Again he retaliates to this by crashing into his employer, Greg’s, car. Although the bullying at his workplace is the trigger to his temper and in turn violence, essentially the problem delves deeper, into Glen’s psychological past, and traumas that he experienced in his childhood due to an abusive father and in turn, troubled upbringing.
