The Jack Manning Trilogy
Face to Face
Topic: Glens violent behavior arises from a number of diverse factors, including workplace bullying and a troubled childhood.
In David Williamsons short play, the Jack Manning trilogy: Face to Face the central character, Glens, violent behavior is due not only to bullying at his workplace, Baldonis Exhibition, but also to psychological trauma from events that occurred previously in his life. Glen, a worker at Baldonis, with a tendency to be overly trusting and gullible, is subjected to a number of practical jokes and taken advantage of by his co-workers. When he becomes aware of how he is used as amusement for his work mates he becomes violent and is sacked from his position. Again he retaliates to this by crashing into his employer, Gregs, car. Although the bullying at his workplace is the trigger to his temper and in turn violence, essentially the problem delves deeper, into Glens psychological past, and traumas that he experienced in his childhood due to an abusive father and in turn, troubled upbringing.
