Critical Evaluation “The Pedestrian” by Ray Bradbury ‘The Pedestrian’ by Ray Bradbury is a science fiction short story. It features a man named Leonard Mead, rebelling against the technology, taking over the individual lives of everyone around him. I will talk about the thought-provoking theme, characterisation and how Ray Bradbury conveyed certain future images with vivid descriptions. ‘The Pedestrian’ is set in 2053AD in a large city in America. The story mainly focuses on a man named Leonard Mead, who is violating or rebelling against the system. He opposes it by going out walking instead of watching television, and because of Leonard’s actions he is sent to a psychiatric centre by police. ‘The Pedestrian’ by Ray Bradbury is set years into the future in 2053AD. Although it is not stated in the story, we have reason to believe that the story is set in America, as the writer uses American terms: “long moonlit avenues of sidewalk in four directions” Ray Bradbury uses the word “sidewalk” which is an American term for pavement.
