Lawrence H. Summers and Laurence H. Tribes Race Is Never Neutral, through a bombardment of facts and statistics, is a very factual piece of writing. Summers and Tribe, both Harvard University alumni, present their argument clearly and try to inform the reader of the racial diversity at our nations universities. For instance, take the opening paragraph, which brings the Supreme Court in with two cases of these race-sensitive admission policies. Summers and Tribe tell us that universities may not be allowed to have racial quotas, but may consider the students race as a factor during the admission process. Then we may wonder who may be subjected to these prejudices. Of course, most people do want a more diverse college, and Summers and Tribe try to make the reader realize that. They do this by taping into the readers sense of fair play so that we can also recognize that everyone may not have a fair chance of getting into the college of their choice.
