The Landlady Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Although the landlady strives to conceal her plan by disguising herself as a kind and silly lady, many evidences are evident in the short story ¡°The Landlady¡± written by Roald Daul, which proves that she is the dissembler of the story. By intentionally being generous and nice, she appears as an ordinary, old and feeble landlady, yet through providing Weaver, whom she tries to deceive, an extremely cheap charge, a very pleasant and cozy shelter, and also treating him in a polite and nice way, the landlady gradually moves forward with her plan to kill him. Though Weaver, the alazon of the story, doesn¡¯t find it odd or strange, the landlady calls for a ¡°fantastically cheap¡± (P2) charge for him to stay for a night. The charge was ¡°five and sixpence a night, including breakfast,¡± (P2) which is so cheap, in fact too cheap. However, Weaver doesn¡¯t realize that the intention of the landlady providing him the low-priced charge is to make sure he stays in her house, but just finds himself lucky and makes his mind to stay in her house, which is what the landlady has ai......
