Structure plays a significant role in story telling. It is the way a writer arranges materials in a story to shape and develop the plot. The materials used in Eudora Weltys 1941 short story, A Worn Path, are skillfully strutctured in chronological order. She expositions the story with a solid setting and a vivid description of the protagonist herself, Phoenix Jackson. Delayed, rather then early information on the grandsons condition is vital to the structure of this story because it intensifies the readers curiosity.
A Worn Path follows what is described as a formal structure. With the exceptions of a few false leads to mystify the reader this story moves from beginning to end. Setting is significant to the story because it informs the reader of where Phoenix Jackson begins her journey.
