New York: Bantam Books, 1972 To Race the Wind is an inspiring story about Harold Krents, a man born blind with the exception of the faint vision in his left eye and light perception in his right eye. He was very active as a child, always playing about in activities such as football, running and other various things. Though he was spirited and loving, Harold found it very difficult to find a steady companion. In his childhood he was subject to loneliness for a lengthy portion of time. Every friend that he had was only for a short period of time which was devastating to a young Harold. Harold was nine years old when he became completely blind, due to his retina detaching from his eye. This was a crucial time in his Harold’s life where he felt that the world had come to an end. He made the transition from an adolescent to an adult at nine years old when he received this information, as he put it. Harold’s parents have played a huge part in his life as his story shows.
