Cloudstreet Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Tim Winton’s novel Cloudstreet explores the lives of two white Australian families living together in a dilapidated mansion on Cloudstreet. Winton’s text represents a society that I, the reader am a part of. This society has been represented in Cloudstreet geographically and through numerous ideologies. Some of these ideologies represented in Cloudstreet include, family, class and gender representation, and through them, I the reader, am positioned to either accept or reject these representations, depending on my own values on how society should be represented. Society is represented in Cloudstreet through the working-class ideology. This is because Winton, primarily focuses his text on the life of this one social group found in Australian society. The working-class ideology is based on material success through luck. Winton’s character Sam, in particularly represents the working-class throughout the text.
