Imagine walking into the diner at about 8oclock, and watching your friend eat two orders of Buffalo wings, a cheese steak, and fries. He munches down the food like he hasnt seen it in months. This is understandable though, since for the next 30 days nothing can pass through his mouth from sun up to sun down. My friends family is devout Muslim, and his fast of 30 days is part of their culture. This month of fasting is called Ramadan.
Ramadan is celebrated from September 24 until October 23. On the first night of Ramadan, Muslims will be looking for a crescent moon in the sky, the signal of the start of Ramadan. Muslim leaders announce the start of the fast that night. The fast will start the next morning, and they will rise early to eat breakfast before the sun comes up. The fast does not end until the sight of the new moon.
