First Person Journal On Romantic Poetry Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

This week, we read some of the Romantic poets and studied one on our own. Although Wordsworth and Coleridge were interesting, my favorites were Blake and Keats. Part of the reason I liked reading these poets is the characteristics that they all have in common as a group of Romantic poets. The Romantic Movement was a movement that was a rejection of the age of reason in favor of more emotional and individual-based literature. I like that the Romantic poets deal with the tumultuous emotion associated with the human experience. Their preoccupation with the mystical and supernatural also interested me. ? William Blake’s theories on the world reminded me a little of Thoreau and the other Transcendentalists. ? He maps out a society in which all humans start out at Beulah, a simple heaven that represents innocence and naiveté. From there the soul descends into the real world that Blake described as hell on earth.
